Nerve damage from fused back L2-S1
I had my back fused from L2-S1. The nerves in my right leg are compromised because of it. I had to learn how to walk and I had a dropped foot. Before the back surgery I have always had bad ankles, well the right ankle started swelling and hurting a lot - needless to say 3 right ankle fusions later and it still does not have a solid fusion . I had also had my knee replaced on the right leg and it also is giving me a lot of pain. My left leg has had no nerve damage and the Left knee was replaced and the Left foot was fused with no problems.
My question is, because of the nerve damage in my Right leg would that cause the ankle and knee not to heal properly? I did have a Neurologist confirm the nerve damage in my right leg before the first ankle surgery, because my Ankle Orthopedic wanted to do an artificial ankle but couldn't because of the nerve damage
Is there anyone out there that can confirm my belief that the nerve damage does hinder fusions. I will appreciate any feed back I get, because I am looking at my next fusion on the ankle very soon and the same with the knee.
