Something has got to give!!!

Ok, Im posting here to kinda wade through my symptoms, I don't have insurance so any ideas I can get before I spend money to speak to a doctor would be greatly appreciated!

I am overweight: I have tried several programs and made lifestyle changes, but to no avail, I continue to stay the same or gain.

I hurt all over all the time: sometimes it's a dull achy pain, sometimes it's sharp, either way it sucks!

I'm always tired, I will sleep a full nights sleep, be up and active for a few hours then I can sleep for four and five hours again.

I get terrible headaches

I have a history of depression and anxiety, I have since I was a kid. I know when an episode is coming and I do well with controlling it. This doesn't feel like an episode, but gets worse when I have a "depressive episode". I'm not on medication due to my lack of insurance and I'm allergic to the generic.

A few years ago I had a doctor that believed something was wrong with my thyroid, she ran the test and my levels came back normal.

With the stress of school and work, this is getting out of hand and something has got to give!!

Re: Something has got to give!!!

I think you need to get your thyroid retested pronto! It can change within a matter of months, that's why doctors like to check it every 6 months.

Every symptom you listed could be caused by either/or an underactive or overactive thyroid. Mine is right on the border line of both. I'm now off all thyroid meds waiting for it to a certain spot (I don't know what they call it). Then they will put me on meds again but I have to keep it checked. This time I will, believe me. The biggest problem is it takes the thyroid 8-10 weeks to reverse (?) itself and believe me, that's a long time to wait to get the right meds to feel better. I'm now in my 7th week. When I see my doctor next week he'll decide if it's time to get a lab test done to see where we stand.

Please give it a try.

Re: Something has got to give!!!

I strongly suggest you have them to re-test your thyroid level because for YEARS and I DO MEAN YEARS they said my thyroid was OK well turns out it was NOT OK!! Not until I got a new doctor and she did ALOT of different tests including retesting my thyroid and it DID show abnormalities and I now take synthroid for it along with my other medications for depression,OCDand bi-polar. I also go to counseling once a month, which helps beyond belief! I hate that you don't have insurance but there are ALOT of drs. and clinics which will take you on for a sliding fee depending on your job and living arrangements,etc... PLEASE do this for yourself as EVERYONE desrves to live a good happy life even if we do have to do it with the help of drs and medications.Hope to hear from you soon and until next time TAKE CARE!!!!!

My first thought was thyroid. You mentioned episodes so someone u have talked to has told u it is either manic or depression? If u can afford a personal trainer then DO IT. It will change your life. No fast food. Replace hunger with walking on a treadmill. If u lose weight then the depression and self worth could reform. How did u know u were allergic? Try Wellbutrin.

Seems like everyone has given you some fairly good advice. On the insurance tip though most of the large insurance companies are now offering low cost plans. They are not great, but they help with Dr visits and prescriptions. I pay $38.00 a month for mine. They pay $50.00 toward each Dr visit, i also use walgreens and my insurance company has a deal with them. So because they have a deal with them prescriptions that used to cost me right at $1000.00 a month are now at $50.00. Im sure each company varies and they will vary from state to state, but I was not getting my medication just because I couldn't afford them.
As far as your headaches go. I waited way to long to find a Neourologist. I am a 32 yr migraine sufferer, I can't even explain how much easier my life has become since I now have a Neurologist. I hope you feel better
