It sounds like he is experiencing what they call "paresthesia". Paresthesias are sensations in/on the skin like burning, wetness, cold, itching, tingling, prickling, etc when no apparent cause is seen.
Parasthesias are common in alcoholics and metabolic disorders like diabetes, hypothyroidism, and hypoparathyroidism. It can also be due to a neurological disorder.
They can also be due to peripheral vascular disease, vitamin B12 deficiency or malnutrition.
If it continues, your husband should get his blood sugar and thyroid hormones levels evaluated. Also, taking vitamin a B12 supplement for some days might be the answer, (if it's a B12 deficiency).
