My first thought is gout. Gout is a very painful condition where crystals develop on the joints typically. It is much more common in men than women, but both are susceptible to it. It can be caused by rich diets, and even with the use of some medications. If it is gout, it will need medication to make it go away and stay away. This is something you would need a diagnosis for, typically including blood work. Time to call your doctor, for this is a very painful thing to live with, as you know by now.
I could be very wrong here, and I hope other will post their ideas for you to consider. Any unexplained pain does need a doctors opinion.. I hope you feel better soon.
