My daughter is 16 and is a very experienced dancer - its her life! Over the last 18 months she has had these strange episodes which have been diagnosed as vasovagal/neurocardiogenic pre syncope. Basically, when she is really exserting herself (really going for it) she will all of a sudden not know where she is or who the people are around her, including me her mom. She looks at you without any recognition of who you are and is utterly terrified. She does anything she can to get away from the situation, when you try to hold her its like she believes she is being attacked. It is horrific for anyone to witness but most of all my daughter. When she gains recognition, she continues to hyperventilate for a few minutes longer. Sometimes the whole episode lasts 2 or 3 minutes. The one she had today lasted 15. She has had an MRI/MRA, heart scan, ECG and treadmill test. Nothing has been detected which has lead to the diag. Neurologist says no need for tilt test as this will just confirm what he already knows.
Last January just a few months before her symptoms started, she had a nasty injury to her neck which needed physio and I wonder if this may be connected?
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has experienced anything similar.
