14 yr old daughter complaining of extreme pain in finger

My 14 yr old daughter is complaining of extreme pain in her middle finger around the first joint, She is in agony and tears I don't know what to do. This has been going on now for about 30 minutes and she is unconsolable. I have never seen anything like this in my life. I gave her an Aleve and she tried ice and cold water *also we tried hot water* and that hasn't helped I am having her hold it now under warm water. This is too weird for words, the finger is not bent or anything like a trigger finger issue. She is complaining also that she has no feeling in that part of her finger, now she is complaining her hold hand is hurting like crazy, from about the base of the fingers up.

She plays guitar a lot and I wonder if this is some sort of reaction to her guitar playing? I am tempted to just get her to the emergency room however I have no insurance and no money so I am clueless. She is now saying that her hand feels like it is boiling. THanks for any advice. She did not do anything to the finger she was just sitting in her room and all of a sudden started to freak out with pain. What in the world could cause such a thing?

Re: 14 yr old daughter complaining of extreme pain in finger

hi so sorry!!! do you have anything to calm her down? maybe even some calming tea? sounds like spasms or something. I think ice would be the thing to do instead of heat. and elevate above her heart and keep her calm as you can. do you have any melatonin? tylenol pm? if none of this works I guess you'll have to take her to the ER, there's got to be one in your area somewhere that takes folks w/ no insurance, you just have to fill out a bunch of forms. good luck and let us know how it goes Ill be watching this thread, ok? Re: 14 yr old daughter complaining of extreme pain in finger

Thank you Cathy
She is starting to calm down a little maybe the Aleve is kicking in. I placed a call to the CHAS nurse hotline and waiting on a call from them. It does sound like some sort of crazy spasm or cramp in her finger/hand. Now she is saying its throbbing a lot which sounds to me like it was a spasm and now it is the tendon or something throbbing after having this episode. I have a sense this is connected to her guitar playing but that is only a guess. thank you so much for your reply. -Mike
