CONSTANT facial pain and headaches

I have been having dull headaches constantly, everyday since September 2011. I started getting pain in my face (forehead, nose, sinus area, sometimes jaw) about 7 or so months later. I have had a CT scan done and have taken antibiotics, used a neti pot, and used Flonase to try and cure a sinus infection. My doctor said I only had very minimal sinus inflammation and it would not cause me this much pressure in my face. Also, I have seen massage therapists and chiropractors for my neck and headaches and nothing has changed. I feel better minutes after leaving the office but soon after that my pain returns. I've tried different sleeping habits and just many different tricks to try and get rid of my pain, but for over a year now nothing has helped. I recently had a MRI done and am waiting for the results, but I have one question; could my teeth be a problem? I have not yet had my wisdom teeth removed and my dentist said that I would need them removed at some point in my life the last time I visited.

I immediately thought about tooth problems when I read your post. Also, TMJ as well. Keep after your doctor and get the answers you need to feel better! Soibhan

Hi
I was wondering if you got your MRI results back. I've been having almost the exact same issues and tried everything. I had an MRI and the only thing it showed was mild mucosal thickening on the right side (which is where a lot of the pain is). I have a root canaled tooth up on that side but saw a couple dentists who took xrays and said teeth look ok.
I've been on flonase for the mucosal thickening (inflammation in sinuses) for about 5 days now and can't really tell a difference. I feel like the flonase gives me more tension headaches. have a mild headache all the time.

just wanted to see if you were having any luck. I know how frustrating this is not knowing what is going on.

Can you think of anything that happened around September when this all started?

sorry, one more question. Have you seen a dentist recently for xrays?

I got the results back and it shows nothing that I should be alarmed about. The only thing I can think of that changed around September was that college started. That was my first year so my sleeping patterns changed, and really, that's about it.

Has a dentist ever told you that you grind your teeth? Do you ever catch yourself clenching throughout the day?

No, a dentist has never told me that but I do catch myself clenching my jaw often

Re: CONSTANT facial pain and headaches

My best advice would be to see a dentist and get xrays and an exam.
Ask him if you show signs of night grinding. you may want to look into a night guard regardless. If you're grinding at night and clenching during the day that can definitely cause headaches and facial pain. You could ask him to check you for TMJ as well.
I hope that grinding/clenching is your problem because that is a pretty easy fix.
It's weird b/c we have the same symptoms and seem to have tried all the same stuff. I grind at night but have worn a night guard for a while so that isn't my problem. and i don't clench during the day. I'm at a loss for myself.

Anyway, I hope that helps and that your problem gets resolved soon. Keep us posted!

So have the night guards and things worked for you? Do you still get headaches/facial pain?

Re: CONSTANT facial pain and headaches

No, but I wear the night guard to protect my teeth. there are different kinds. I use one the only goes over the top 4 or 5 teeth (called an NTI guard) and makes it so my teeth don't touch at all. That way my face muscles stay relaxed (and my teeth don't hit together) while i grind at night.

I thought it might work for you b/c if you do grind now and you're not wearing anything then you are just bashing your teeth together all night and that could definitely cause your symptoms. Also, try to stay very aware all day of your mouth position to stop the clenching as best you can. I think we both are probably under a lot of stress dealing with this so the stress alone can cause headaches, neck pain, etc..

I still have pain in the upper teeth area near sinuses, tension headaches, neck and shoulder pain and a tooth that had a root canal on the other side that WON'T heal. the tooth is just constantly tender.

I'm afraid my problem is dental on the other side even though the dentists say it isn't. I just can't figure it out. It's so frustrating ( and expensive)

Keep me posted and let me know if you try something that helps and I'll do the same.

Hi

In my opinion you had better consult an ENT specialist very immediately. Please do not take tension about anything.
Thanks.

I am going through the same exact thing. Both of my wisdom teeth or coming in and I have the same headaches and pressure in my face.
