| Crushed fingertips, broken bones
Hello all. I am looking for information from people experienced with a hand injury.
About 6 weeks ago the tips of my index and middle fingers of my left hand were crushed in an accident. I received immediate care at the ER and follow up a specialist. The distal phalanges (smallest bones after last knuckle) were broken pretty much straight across. A "simple" fracture. I had stitches to repair cuts in the pulp of the fingertip and surgery to repair the nail bed on one finger. My fingers have been in splints.
At four weeks, x-ray revealed that the bones had not healed and my doctor sent me away for another month. The fingertips are extremely sensitive right now and they look really awful.
Bad enough, but my anxiety about healing is rather severe as I am a musician and depend on my hands. Once the splints are removed and I can stand the sensitivity, I believe I will start therapy to regain movement in what will surely be very stiff knuckle joints.
Does anyone have experience with this type of injury? Thoughts about recovery... or time to recover?
