Pain in shoulder
My son (16 years old) plays baseball and is a catcher. He's very fit and works out quite often. He has never had any sort of pain anywhere, except every year when the season starts, he gets bicep pain that's just from working the arm back in shape.
A few weeks ago, he started feeling pain in his shoulder, that radiates down to his forearm. It wasn't much, but not it hurts pretty bad. He says there is no pain at all until he lifts his hand above his head. In fact, yesterday, he did almost a full workout, but didn't do the military presses as that hurt. He had no trouble benching or any other upper body lifts.
I have an appointment to get him x-rayed. Will that end up being a waste of money? From what I have read, it sounds like a rotator cuff issue. Do most roator cuff injuries require surgery? If he has to have surgery, I would rather do it now, so he can play spring baseball with his HS team. However, I'm thinking the doctor is more than likely just going to prescribe rest for a period of time.
What do you think?
