Crushed ankle from MVA

On 3-23 I was involved in a terrible MVA, I fractured two vertebrae, collarbone, 13 ribs, hip, and broke both legs. I have recovered from everything after 3 months in the hospital, except my crushed ankle on right foot. I have had two surgeries to fuse my ankle and still can't imagine being able to walk again. I was wondering if anyone has been through having your ankle fused?

Re: Crushed ankle from MVA

Yikes, you have had a rough year. I haven't personally had my ankle fused, but there have been some folks here and down on the "foot problems" board who did, perhaps you can look for their stories.

Usually fusion works. After you heal, the ankle doesn't bend, but you can walk near normally. They may put "rocker bottoms" on your shoes to help you get around.

However, it does take months, and sometimes the bones have trouble fusing properly, especially if they are crushed like that. What do your latest x-rays show? Any signs of healing?
