Red face some screws broke off during surgery

I was wondering if it was normal to have screws break off during surgery and them left inside the bone. I went into surgery Tuesday to have 8 screws and a metal plate removed that had been causing me terrible pain for 9 years. I don't know why they wouldn't remove the hardware sooner (I've been begging). Anyway, the Dr. finally agreed to the surgery when the x rays showed the plate was too big and one of the screws were backing out.During surgery 4 of the screws broke off and he left them in there. What now?

Re: some screws broke off during surgery

Love your screen name.

I don't have any answers for you, but I'm having a plate and screws removed in a couple weeks. I hope mine goes better than yours. If I get a chance, I'll ask my dr about this.

I wish you well with your recovery.
