| Fractured Calcaneus Bone
I'm new to this forum so I apologize if I'm not doing this correctly.
Back in July I took a fall and injured my foot and ankle while on vacation. The ER x-rays did not show any break and when I returned home I went to my Orthopedist and his x-rays also did not show a break. The consensus of opinion was a sprained ankle.
I went to physical therapy for 3 months and although the swelling was down, I could still not walk correctly and I was in pain unless I had a shoe with a big heel on it.
When I went back to the doctor he said it would take time.
After 6 more weeks of no improvement I went back again. More x-rays were taken and it turns out I fractured my Calcaneus bone in my foot.
I went to a foot and ankle specialist and he gave me a cortisone shot which did nothing to alleviate the pain or help me walk.
Now I am schedule for surgery and from everything I have read, it won't be an easy road.
I work full time in an office and I am wondering about the recovery time. How much work will I have to miss because of the surgery?
Also, I've heard that the beginning stages of the recovery are very painful. The surgeon told me that the anesthesiologist will probably give me something to numb the pain for the first 36 hours.
Any answers will be appreciated.
TIA
Sue
