Kienbock's Disease/Just diagnosed
Last year around Oct./Nov. I started having wrist pain, weakness. This is my dominate rt hand. I seen my primary Physicain in Nov. We really didn't do anything then. Except for wearing a wrist brace. Till Jan. this year, when i went back to her and said this pain is getting worse. And that I was having big problems with weakness. She didn't think it was Carpal Tunnel, but sugested x-rays to be sure it wasn't arthritis. After the x-ray, they said everything looked good. My Dr. suggested that i still wear the wrist brace. After a couple weeks i called back and said things are worse, with pain/weakness. For example; I couldn't pull my shifter in my car. and, I got stuck in my recliner cause i didn't have to strength to pull the lever. (yes, i know thats funny). So they set up an appointment with a Hand Specialist. Which, when i went to see him, he looked at the x-rays, and said it looks like Keinbock's Disease, and he explained what that was. He said we will do a MRI to verify for sure. I asked him then what do we do after that. he said lets just wait to see what the MRI says. Not knowing anything about this, my husband and i both started looking online to see what it was, and how serious it it. We were both suprised. Finially did the MRI this last Thursday, then went right over to his office. Where he said it is KD. he said at stage 2. Then he says lets put it in a cast and we well see you in a month. I said i have had the brace for 3-4 months, how will this be different? He really didn't answer that, just said we will see in a month. I asked him if i will be able to work with a cast? he said "I don't know". thought that was a strange answer. So cast was put on, and i still don't understand. Can wearing a cast for 1 month make it all better? fixed?? I just can't see this, if the bone is dying or dead, how can this be all i need? and he never said anything about having another x-ray or MRI before that next visit, so how will he know if the cast was all i needed?? For all the information that i read online, it doesn't sound real good. Oh, the Dr. did say, "Your wrist will never be the same". Huh, really!! I just don't know what to expect. Has anyone been through this with the cast first? Then what? Am I going to need surgery anyway? I just don't get it. I wish i knew more of what to expect. How long will all this take? Will it ever be done? Will i have to go through all the steps, like the grafting, the removal of the bones, fusions, etc.? am i going to be having several surgeries? Will i be missing a lot of work?? I have vacation, but i don't have any short term or long term disability. Should i be worring bout that??
Sorry this got so long, but i have no one to talk to. Please if anyone has any info for me, that has been through all this, PLEASE let me know. I think that i'm driving my husband nuts, with all these questions, and my worring. Oh, and by the way, my wrist still hurts.
Thanks for your help!!
