Angry Jammed Finger/Avulsion Fracture/Torn Ligament?

Hi there,

I slipped on the floor and put my hand right into a shower glass door (sturdy one) in Dec. 14, 2012 and hyper-extended my right middle finger. I was able to bend it the whole way down although it was starting to swell and I pulled on it to make sure it wasn't dislocated. Since that was a Friday - went to the dr. on Monday.

1st Dr. - 12/17/12 She wasn't my PCP due to holiday but she tells me it's a jammed finger and it'll heal - just exercise it. "&*&*(&)? I was dyer pain the next week as I constantly hit it in my sleep.

2nd Dr. - 1/2/13 My regular PCP (1 yr) xrays and says I have .61mm avulsion fracture - no big deal/jammed finger and he says to splint it. Gives me a metal cheap splint and off I go. Since I'm an accountant and constantly on the computer he calls the next day to tell me that I could buddy tape it to my ring finger. Well the fracture was on the "left" side so uh - I think taping it to that finger further injured it. After a week I taped it to the index finger as it was more secure.

3rd Dr. - 3/15/13 I was visiting a friend in AZ so I decided to go to an Ortho specialist there as they said how swollen/horrible my finger looked. It actually looks worse now then when I first injured it. Go figure. He tells me to exercise it. Ok - it swells up after I do, I splint it straight at night to try and avoid the boutonniere deformity that has been starting to occur in month two and three.

4th whatever - 3/25/13 Now I'm seeing a hand therapist and she says it may take a year to heal but I would get full range of motion (ROM). Well, on the first visit she says that I don't have any torn tendons or I wouldn't be able to move it. On the second visit she says that I have a torn ligament. So she's going to just continue to see me every single two weeks and do what? It keeps getting WORSE. She tells me to exercise it every hour, blah blah blah. All the advice I've been given has just made it worse and now I'm so fearful that I'm going to be stuck with this finger that I can only bend half way down and it hurts.

Please help -
Lord forbid you would think after 50,000 football/basketball jammed fingers that these dr's would know something

Greatly appreciate any accurate advice I can get.

Thanks,
Laurie
