-4.3 at lumbar spine ... just started Forteo

I came here to read about others' experiences with Forteo and whether it is thought to be safe. I was reluctant to start because of the possibility of nausea and depression side effects --- my own personal fears from a lifetime of depression and nausea related to severe migraines. I've been free of those problems for several years, but the fear of experiencing them agsin is paralyzing.

I finally mustered up the courage to begin. Just two injections so far. First two days, mild headache, mild neck pain, mild jaw pain and overall achy feeling. But today feeling pretty good. Anyone else have these reactions?

Those of you using strontium - using in addition? Or instead? Why?

My scores sound far worse than those of you sharing.
-4.3 at lumbar spine
-3.6 at hip
I get the feeling I may be crumbling. But overall, I feel pretty good. Mainly, I feel quite tired after activity.

Hoping for the best, and wishing the best for all of you,
TinyOne

When I started Forteo I was very concerned as well but I had two spontaneous back fractures so taking it was a easier decision.
I don't mean to minimize your concerns of nausea or a history of depression maybe reappearing, this is something you should discuss with your doctor.
In my case, the fear from another fracture was overriding any concerns about side effects and the side effects I did feel may had been related to a very painful recovery.
I couldn't directly relate side effects to the drug but I did have a loss of appetite and a strong reactions to certain smells like broccoli that use to love.
I would say it took about two months for me to get use to the daily regimen of injections and any worries about side effects but when I finished the results were worth it.
I wish you well and hope this is your f help to you.

Yes, I've discussed all with my physician. I learned of my condition as a follow up with potential reasons for a compression fracture. I view that seemingly minor fall as a blessing in disguise. Through many months of physical therapy for the injury, I am now in better shape physically than ever before AND I learned if the severity of osteoporosis. So, in a strange way, I am grateful. Thank you for sharing your insight.

Re: -4.3 at lumbar spine ... just started Forteo

I hope you are doing well on your Forteo and feeling more confident with it. I am 23 months into mine, and before I started Forteo I had problems with severe migraines for ten years. They have been no worse at all because of the Forteo. I am glad I stuck it out this long and am almost finished. I do not yet know if it helped as I have not had another bone density test yet, but I do feel stronger. I had two previous compression fractures, the first at 49 yrs old, so I had no choice but to be aggressive with treatment. I hope my encouragement will help you overcome some of your fear.

Re: -4.3 at lumbar spine ... just started Forteo

I am a 65 and I just got my Bone Density results -
-3.7 Spine -2.7 hips My Doctor wanted to start me on Prolia but
then called an said Forteo. This drug is very expensive and my Dr's office
trying to work something out with my insurance co and a pharmacy they
use in Michigan. Keep fingers crossed. I have to take it regardless of
side effects. I have heard of very positive results as far as increase in
bone density. I have also read that Forteo can only be taken for 15 mos.
I hope this works out with my insurance and this pharmacy.
