My friend that has severe osteo has always had yearly DEXA scans paid for by Medicare. She was on the table ready for her scan when they mentioned it had not been two years and that Medicare will not make exceptions anymore for yearly scans effective June of this year. Anyone heard about this?
I've always been told that Medicare would only pay for a DEXA every two years. Same thing w/PAPs, only once every two years. Even tho I am considered "high risk" I have to pay every other year for my PAP. Before being forced on Medicare my insurance paid for an annual PAP and I wasn't considered high risk at that time. Sheesh!
No, they did pay more often for DEXA for some individuals based on steroid use and other reasons. It was not usual but it was done. Now, they say No, not for any reason.
