Sciatic nerve pain

Has anyone experienced sciatic nerve pain since using Forteo pen? My wife has used the pen 9 months now and there are no side effects except constant sciatic nerve pain (right leg) when walking. Probably not related but need to start eliminating possibilities.

Re: Sciatic nerve pain

I haven't quite reached the end of my first month on Forteo. I alternate tummy and thigh injection sites, mostly the tummy, because I must also give myself a vitamin B12 injection once a week.

I hate to admit that I have started having what we think is sciatic nerve pain in the left leg, from top of hip bone down to the ankle. HOWEVER, I am left-handed and it seems like everything that goes to heck on me is on the left side. Besides which, I am in Pulmonary Rehab right now and utilizing the Airdyne exercise bike. I am quite sure that the irritated sciatic nerve is from the bike seat. USUALLY the sciatic nerve doesn't bother me during the day. It waits until I go to bed and get in a hour or two's sleep and then starts in. By morning I've got a couple of Tyelnol under my belt.We just did xrays of the back and left hip last week. I should get the results today.

Chronie, I hope the pain is just a temporary reaction to the bike seat. We just got new equipment at our gym and boy is the bike seat a killer. I hope they didn't throw out the old ones, which were much more comfortable. They are still remodeling, but I think I'll stick to the treadmill and cross-trainer if I can't find the old bikes.

Re: Sciatic nerve pain

Tell them to save the seats!!!!! Heck, if they want to sell the old bikes they can trade the new bike seats for the old and still sell the old bikes.

Well, the hips were in pretty good shape. some mild degenerative changes, bilaterial hip joint space narrowing. But that was all. The spine was another matter. Not horrible but quite likely the cause of the sciatica. Some forward slipping of the L5 on the S1 and some breaking down of the L5 on both sides. Severe degenerative disc disease with disc space narrowing and end plate hardening at L5-S1 and mild degenerative disc disease at L4-L5. All the other lumbar vertebrae look normal with normal height and no fracture.

Not bad after 30 years of moving a ton of dog food a month, 50 lbs at a time, several times over. Plus the "remains", or residue if you prefer, of the dog food to be carried to the disposal site. I'm in darn good shape for the shape I am in!

Re: Sciatic nerve pain

Chronie, Glad to hear that you're doing pretty well, all things considered! (And I'm sure you made a lot of dogs happy along the way!)
