| Re: Man with Osteoperosis
My husband has primary osteoporosis. He was diagnosed 6 years ago when he was 49, and has been taking Fosamax since that time, because there is no treatment specifically for men. It's hard to say whether it's working any more. He had very good results the first couple of years and now he seems to be losing bone mass again. But he's afraid that if he stops taking it the bone loss will accelerate. So he intends to continue it as long as his endocrinologist says he should. Every day he takes 1500 mg of calcium plus D, 750 mg magnesium, and does weight-bearing exercise.
In your case, correcting the condition that caused your osteo sounds logical and may be all that you need. Fosamax can cause problems for some people, but others tolerate it just fine, including my husband and my grandmother. I decided not to take it, after reading "The Myth of Osteoporosis" by Gillian Sanson. I highly recommend that you read that book before making your decision whether to take Fosamax.
