Rheumatologist, endocronologist... who to see? - Osteoporosis Message Board

I just made my 1 yr follow up appt for my scan and whatnot with the initial guy I saw - a Rheumatologist. It seems most people are seeing endocronologist... who is best qualified for this? I didn't love this guy... mostly because he talked about himself the entire time (um hello, how are MY bones doing there?), but he gave good advice to start.

Regardless on if I liked him or not, should I be seeing a different specialist?

Not necessarily. Some rheumies do very well treating osteoporosis and almost sub-specialize in it whilst some Endocrinologists are less interested in osteoporosis than in other endocrine problems and there are even some gynecologists who are very much into treating osteoporosis. If you've gotten good advice so far and you don't really dislike the current rheumie you might as well stick with him. On the other hand, if you aren't all that confident in him, explore further amongst the three specialties to find who is doing the most with osteoporosis and try getting an appointment with that one.

I'm seeing an endocrinologist and since it's at a teaching hospital there is a doctor specializing in osteo, but I'm seen in the diabetic clinic timeslot so most patients are diabetic. I've been asked every visit by every nurse if I'm diabetic. My new doctor is really good though.

Taape, I'm so glad to hear that you like your new doctor. You had a real pain in the butt doctor for awhile, didn't you? Did you ever get that travel variance that you wanted for work?
