| Yahoo, I am going on Forteo
I finally got my appointment to the Womans Osteo clinic to see a Dr. Osteo specialist about my Osteo. My GP, although a decent family Dr. was reluctant to get me into the clinic. You have to take control, and push your GP, be forceful, gals and guys, its your body.
The result of the clinic, was within 2 days, the Eli Lilly nurse called me for my first intro, and fact gathering. Looks like some time the week of Oct 24th, she will show me how to inject. For those who have not read my previous posts, I am 54 year young male, family history of Osteo.
My scores 2 years ago were were 3.3 spine and 2.7 hip , and with 2 years of Fosomax, lots of calcium, exercise, I have a net 9% gain in spine, and 1% hip. This was just with Fosomax, calcium, and excercise. I have to be honest, not much additional exercise.
The studies suggest I could see up to another 10% gain spine, and I am hoping for 5% hip with the Forteo. I have lost 2" height, broke tail bone, ribs, toes, fingers hand, so I had enough breakages to qualify for the Forteo. My specialist has me on 18 months of Forteo, then back to Fosomax to hold the bone I gain. I like the idea of gain, then hold, gain then hold. The biophosphates alone can hold, but not nessesarily gain bone for most people.
Seems funny to be happy about sticking a needle in me for the next 18 months, but since I have a family history of Osteo, I have personally seen the longer term results of the crumbling, and pain.
The Eli Lilly Nurse asked if I had a partner who was willing to lean the needle proceedure with me, and I told her my wife would be very happy to lean how to stick needles in me.
The nurse had my family genetic Osteo history, and said maybe you have some good genes as well. I said I do, they are blue, and I am wearing them right now. She got the message real quick, that I will not be a boring patient.
Anyway, I thought I would let you guys know I will be on Forteo very soon.
