Infusion Biophosphates Anyone? - Osteoporosis Message Board

I saw the Endocrinologist today and as much as I pleaded to go past the two years on Forteo and continue, the doctor said that it's too risky and there's no studies done of patients staying on it longer than the clinical trials of 2 years maximum. I still have bone density that could be improved by more Forteo so I'm disappointed as it helped alot. I don't want to go backwards.

My doctor is setting me up for 4x./year infusions of Boniva since I can't tolerate the pill form. The doctor said that the medication will not go through my stomach as the pills do. If you have had infusions could you let me know how this is working? Does it cause side effects? Is it increasing or keeping your bone density stable? Thanks

I'm sorry to hear that you can't continue on the Forteo, although I guess it shouldn't be too surprising. I too am concerned about what to do after Forteo (I have about 6 months left). I took Actonel for a while before the Forteo and had no problems with it so I guess I could go back on it as much as I hate to have to continue on medication.

I don't know anything about Boniva other than what little I've read so I can't help you there. I wish you all the best though.

Thanks. It is a real problem what to do next after Forteo since usually the persons bone density is really bad or they wouldn't be on Forteo in the first place. So, the bone density wouldn't get back to normal with only 2 years of treatment and is most likely an going medical issue.

I hope someone has used infusion Boniva although my doctor said I was her first referral. That's scary. I did call the company today and they are sending me some information in the mail.

Am I the only one that is having infusion treatment? I was hoping to talk with some others about this - I have lots of reservations about a 90 blast of medication.

My endo wanted me to have the iv therapy with something that started with an A I can't remember what, every three months for two hours. I talked to my dentist and he told me under NO! circumstances to take it. He did extenstive research and talked to the pharma co and they said it was very dangerous. I don't know about the Boniva one though. I have dental problems with two impacted wisdome teeth one is broken throught the skin and I can't have it out because a nerve is wrapped all around it and the iv therapy almost always kills the bone in the jaw.
