Forteo-is not sleeping well a side effect - Osteoporosis Message Board

I have only been on Forteo a week and I am waking up several times
a night. I didn't think anything of it the first few nights but I have
not been sleeping good for a week now and the only thing that has
changed is starting on Forteo. I have not had any effects at all so far
but this. I give my shot at 830pm, I am going to
start giving in the morning and see if there is a difference in my sleeping.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I haven't noticed any problems sleeping due to the Forteo. I do my shots in the morning but have done a shot and then gone back to sleep with no problems.

I tried taking Forteo last year, and I had no side-effects except for severe insomnia. I tried taking it in the morning as well as in the evening, but it made no difference whatsoever. I tried it for several weeks, then stopped, then waited a few weeks, and started it again. I did these "trials" over a 4-month period. Each time I had insomnia. I called Lily and reported it and was told that it was a side effect during clinical trials, but not a common one. I had to stop taking it since going without sleep was making me feel very sick. I also had the same reaction to Fosamax and Actonel. Once I stopped the drugs I was able to go back to 8 hours of sleep a night.

I feel badly that I can't take these drugs, however, sleep is more important to me than anything. I also told my doctor that I didn't want to become addicted to sleeping pills just so I could take another drug, and he agreed.

I also experienced the not sleeping well in the beginning, can't really remember how long it took for that to get better. I've now been on the Forteo 7 months and no longer have the sleeping problem.

I also was having some trouble sleeping at night due to Forteo, during the first few months. But I was usually able to compensate with a nap or two during the following day.
