Eliminating Dietary Calcuium - Is it ok? - Osteoporosis Message Board

I'm fighting a bad sinus infection and infection in my lungs and have stopped eating dairy because it seems to make it worse. I decided to take additional Citrical pills instead for a week or so to make up for the loss of dietary calcium. Is there any harm in doing this being that I'm not on any ostoe medication at the current time?

Hi taape- Dr. Susan Ott is a bone metabolism specialist at the Univ. of Washington. I believe that she is very well respected in her field. She has an informative website you can easily go to by searching "bone physiology". Then if you go to patient information -you will see a section you can go to on calcium facts. She states that the bones do not care if calcium is from a food source or a supplement. Hope that you feel better soon.

Hi taape..maybe while your off dairy foods you could eat more dark green veggies, hummus, beans and other non dairy calcium sources in addition to the supplements. feel better soon...phyllis
