Receiving Forteo by Shipment

I received my second month's supply of Forteo by shipment today which was left on my front porch between 10:30 and noon. I came home from work at noon to get the package and put it in the refrig. The frozen gel pack thingies were cool but no longer frozen. The pen was cold, but I really doubt it was between 36 and 46.

For those of you who receive your medication this way, does this seem right?

Re: Receiving Forteo by Shipment

When I was receiving Forteo I talked the Pharmacy into delivering on Saturdays because I wasn't at home during the weekdays.

My pens were packed between ice packs with a piece of paper inbetween the ice packs and the pen box, the ice packs were barely defrosted at all. It was in an styrofoam ice chest designed to ship medications. Th pen box was always cool and I never had a problem. The instructions said that the pen should be good for 24 hrs in the shipping container. Now I've got more than a dozen wonderful ice chests to use as lunch boxes or whatever.

Was your pen shipped in between ice packs or only cold gel packs? They can't put the frozen ice packs right on the pen box otherwise it might freeze which would be worse than getting somewhat warm. Did they ship overnight priority like Fedex or something.

Re: Receiving Forteo by Shipment

Hi Rosegarden: I have my forteo shipped as well, and I agree with Taape, can you get them to ship on a Saturday? When I get mine in comes FedEx overnight in the styrofoam cooler with the ice packs, and my ice packs are always still *frozen solid* when it arrives.

If you think it wasn't the right temp. I would talk to your insurance provider. Those ice packs are supposed to last 24 hrs.

One time mine was delivered to the wrong address (next door) and when I got it, the ice packs were still frozen. I don't know how long the package sat out, but we live in the desert were it gets to 110 or hotter in the summer, and this happened last summer. That was the last time I let them deliver it without a signature. I just *have* to make sure someone is here on the day of the delivery even though those ice packs have never melted once.

Re: Receiving Forteo by Shipment

I honestly cannot remember how it was all layered together in the styro coolers because I was in a hurry to get it out and into the refrig and then go back to work. But there were 3 "Polar Packs," none frozen, all soft; they felt cool, not cold. I received it on a Tuesday and believe they shipped Monday.

I'm going to call my prescription provider to express my concern and find out when it was shipped. Seems like I'm always calling somebody, doesn't it? LOL! Well, I want to make sure this is getting done right, or there is no sense in doing it!

I think you have the right idea to receive the package on a day when someone is home to take it in, and I can arrange that pretty easily.

Thanks for your input, Desertbloom.

Re: Receiving Forteo by Shipment

I use my cooler and ice packs for carrying my lunch, etc., and even if i forget and leave it in the car up to 2 days those ice packs are still somewhat frozen. I wonder if they put partially defrosted ice packs in the cooler that they shipped to you. It's worth checking on.
