Hi Jodiane: I was told, by several Drs, to take it with meals in divided doses, totalling 1200-1500 mg a day. Your body can't absorb more than 500 mgs at one time, so that's why they tell you divided doses. I was then told that 1500 mg was too much, by another Dr,

so it depends on how much you are getting through your diet. I always took the D at the same time. If you're taking any bisphosphonates (actonel etc) then you have to wait to take calcium.
