Keeping Forteo Cold in a Hotel Room - Osteoporosis Message Board

Can Forteo be kept cold in a hotel room over a period of several days when it is kept in the travel case and the styro cooler it's delivered in?

I could freeze the Polar Packs and put ice or other frozen Polar Packs under the travel case.

Has anyone done this?

I don't know the answer to your question but whatever you do be careful about hotel refridgerators. We needed to stay out only one night so we used the styrofoam container with the cold pack. My husband said what about the fridge in the room, I said sometimes they can be too cold so let's just keep it in the styrofoam. Next morning the orange juice in an orange juice container that we put in the fridge overnight was frozen. I am soooo glad we didn't put the forteo in the fridge overnight!

All of the hotels I stayed in I requested a small refrigerator which I got for free because I was using it for medication. I also brought my Forteo in the cooler with the ice packs for travel to/from just how it was packed when I received it, and kept the pen in the cooler until I was sure that the refrigerator was at the correct temperature and would not freeze the pen which sometimes took several hours. I brought along a good thermometer to make sure of the temperature in the refrigerator. Once I was sure the refrigerator was ok I'd transfer the pen to it and take the ice packs to the front desk to be put in a restaurant freezer.

If your traveling for several days I would bring extra ice packs so you could rotate them into the cooler as the ice pack/cooler that mine was shipped in was guaranteed to stay cool enough for 24 hours only. Plus it depends on the temperature of the motel room and the car/plane on how fast the ice packs will warm up.

I didn't think about the hotel room having a refrigerator! I'll check on that and if they do, will take a thermometer with me to check out the temp. My experience is that most hotel refrig's are not very cold.

I'm an "el cheapo". Most everywhere I travel I just need a CLEAN motel room w/shower to use as a "flop house", just for sleeping and showering, the rest of the time I'm busy elsewhere. Therefore I often don't have a frige in my room. I just got back from 5 days in Lexington, KY. I stayed at my usual Motel 6 in Georgetown. No friges in the rooms. I just ask that the desk clerk put my Forteo in their frige and my ice packs in their freezer. Every night when I return to the motel I pick up my Forteo, go down to my room and administer it, and then return it to the desk clerk to be put back in their frige. Works for me. Lexinton is an 8 hour drive for me one way and the cooler pack in a cooler keeps it plenty cool the entire drive.
