Forteo and Bone Growth - Osteoporosis Message Board

Hi all- We forteo users are always thinking in terms of our spine and hips improving as a result of forteo. And, it is our spine and hips that are measured for results. And, apparently it is the bone in the spine that is expected to improve more than the bone in the hips. Does anyone have a handle on how forteo grows bone in other places for example, in our legs or hands. I know there are different types of bone in different areas of our body. This sounds like a research project but perhaps someone has read something or their dr. has discussed this topic with them. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Osteo: I don't have any research on this, but I'll look it up, and "see if" I find anything. However, do you remember that there have been a few people here that were told to go on Forteo for fractures of the leg, that weren't healing, I think there was someone with a pelvic fracture as well, that wasn't healing right? There were some other areas of concern where someone had a fracture and surgery and was going on forteo to stimulate bone growth, similar to the 2 I mentioned above. I can't find the post right now, but you might be able to find it using the search feature at the top of the page for "searching the thread".

That's me with the femur fracture! I also have low bone density, so the doctor recommended Forteo as he thought it could not only help with the density but also help heal the fracture. I'm on crutches and trying to avoid surgery to repair the fracture.
