Hi mbeth, welcome

to the board. I have a few questions for you...did your dr. give you a copy of your DEXA scores? If not, ask for a copy to be sent to you and post them. Are you thru menopause yet? I'm guessing your 50, right? Do you have risk factors for osteo? thin frame, family history, other conditions?
If it were me in the osteopena stage i wouldn't take any of the meds now available. As pepurr mentions..read, read, read. the better informed you are the better decison you can make. Since you are in the ospeopenia stage you can do things to help your bones without meds...weight bearing exercises, calcium from dairy and non dairy foods, supplements and keeping active. Also read the book
the Myth of Osteoporosis by Gillian Sanson...its loaded with good info that isn't in some of the other books. I personally take strontium and am happy with the results i've gotten from it.
there are a lot of smart people on this board, you'll get good advice and the support you need. take care...phyllis
