Stontium Citrate .. are we sure of the effects - Osteoporosis Message Board

We all know strontium ranalate has great reviews and is for sale in UK but awaiting approval in US and Canada ... so everyone now is running out to buy the supplement form of strontium citrate while waiting ...but do we have anyone out there that can tell us that yes citrate is just as good????????

Hi canna and welcome to the board.. its the strontium in SR that is the important ingredient. The renalate is a salt added to make it patentable. Since stroinum is a natural substance and can't be patented alone they have to add something that will make it acceptable for prescription use. I've been taking strontium citrate for over a year and showed bone density improvement in both total hip and lumbar spine. I don't know if the citrate is better than any of the other forms or not, but it seems to be working for me. take care...phyllis

Happy 55th Birthday this month!

No luck at the nickel slot machine, maybe November will be luckier for you than October was for me!

I can finally get my bone density test done this month, it's passed the two year mark since my last test, I hope my numbers are at least no worse than two years ago, then I would be happy and consider myself lucky. If not, maybe it will time for me to get strontium, we'll see......

I have the choice to get my DEXA scan in a local hospital on the same machine as two years ago, or get tested on a machine at a hospital which specializes in osteoporosis treatment. Which machine do you think I should choose?

Hi Jacal5...i've always heard that you're supposed to use the same machine, with the same tech everytime if possible. I think thats because different machines would give different readings and using the same one would at least be consistent. If you'd get better care at the osteo center and would be using it for future scans go there. Seems to me a place that specializes in osteo would be better informed and more helpful than a hospital x-ray dept. where all they do is the scan and send it off to be read. Could you find out if they use the same type machines. If you decide on the center take your copy of the scores you had 2 years ago so they could have some basis for comparison. Would your insurance cover both places?

I forget..have you been taking one of the osteo meds or trying for imporvements with diet and exercise? thnaks for the early bday greeting..its the 21st so i'll be spending my day cooking and getting ready for the kids to come home. its also our grandaughters bday so i'll make her a cake. take care...phyllis

thanks philwhil for that info.. I just found out that I have osteoporosis and my doctor have put me on Didrocal but he knew little about strontium as it is a supplement but the more I hear the more I want to try Strontium citrate. How much do you take per day? This board is great.. glad I found it
