Question about Strontium

I have been reading a lot about Strontium Citrate and its potential to rebuild bone - but I am confused. Does it make your bone remineralize with Strontium instead of Calcium. It seems like this is the way it works but I can't find a lot of information on it. I am wondering if this is healthy for your bones? Does anyone take Strontium and know how it works? Any experience/input woud be greatly appreciated.

Re: Question about Strontium

Hi jrose, i have a couple of articles that explains how it works, but i don't know if they would be allowed. I got in trouble a while back posting what i thought was a good article, so now i am leary to try again. From what i understand the strontium slows down the breakdown of bone so we don't lose it as quickly. It also helps build new bone both on the the outside and the inside of the bone which improves both the quality and quantiy of bone. If you do a search on "strontium renalate studies" ( strontium citrate is the active ingredient in the SR..the renalate makes it patentable) you'll find a much better explanation. You need calcium when you take strontium, they work together, but can't be taken at the same time. They each need their own time to be absorbed. Sorry i can't be more help. I've been taking it for over 1.5 years and did have improvements on my last DEXA in June 2007. If you have more questions, ask...maybe i'll be able to be more helpful take care..phyllis

Re: Question about Strontium

Thank you for your reply. I will continue searching for research and I may ask my doctor about it although he is rather traditional and is rarely ever in favor of non-mainline supplements. I'm considering switching to a more holistic healthcare provider.

Re: Question about Strontium

Thanks for your question and reply. Strontium was just recommended to me also from a local wellness center. I have not yet researched it yet.
