I've Finally got a referral to a new endocrinologist - Osteoporosis Message Board

I've been trying to find another endocrinologist to see if they will order Foreto for me past the two years. I finally got a referral today but my appointment isn't for months. Well, at least it's a start. My regular endocrinologist will only follow the FDA guidelines since it's at a University Hospital. I already have a dEXA scan scheduled at the hospital which is before I see this new doctor so at least I'll have current information.

I'm having major dental work again so I know the IV infusion meds aren't going to work and neither is bisphosphonates by mouth. So, the only thing I'm counting on is going back on Forteo at least to get me through the worst of menopause.

Taape-While you have your appt. that you said is in months, did you also ask to be placed on a wait list for cancellations. This has almost always worked out for me and allowed me to get in much earlier.

Yes, I did ask to be on a cancellation list. But also about a week before this app't I'm already scheduled at the old place to get a DEXA scan which I'd really like to have so I can bring the results.

HI Taape...it's a shame you have to wait so long to see the endo, but there are so few and so many who need to see one. Does the new endo work with a different hospital than the one you go to now for DEXAs? It may be an idea to have the DEXA done in the same place as you'll be having them in the future so it will be on the same machine. I've read more than once that differnt machines give different results. take care...phyllis

This doctor works with the local hospital where I had my original DEXA scan where I became aware that I had osteoporosis. I've found that endo's traet patients with with diabetic patients and they seem to take priority alot of the time. I don't really mind waiting but I know that I can't take the IV infusions of bisphosphonates or else my mouth will be at risk. I've already had one emergency dental appointment last week, I was in so much pain and had to have a really deep cavity drilled out which I wouldn't have been able to do while on medication. I don't know the answer but I'm still looking.
