| Protein supplement after EX. may help bone etc.
I read a summary of a recent journal article which states that in their research it was found that
Protein containing nutrient supplementation following strength training enhances the effect on muscle mass, strength and bone formation in post menopausal women.
The protein drink contained--protein, carbohydrate, calcium and vit d.
The ex. research program lasted 28 wks. The article concluded that the improvement shown in such a short time emphasized how impactful the protein supplementation could be.
Perhaps this is another helpful thing for us to add to our repertoire of things to help our bones??
I used to use a whey protein supplement that I liked-it has been discontinued. Has anyone looked into protein supplements and have any suggestions on brand or type?
p.s.- I also happened across journal articles talking about low bone density in cyclists. One article looked at bone density in street v. mountain cyclists. And, the mountain cyclists did not have as low bone density as the street cyclists. Must be they get more bouncing around--it is that impact aspect again. Thought I would mention this for you cyclists. It is good of course for cardio and that needs to be a part of the picture but it seems for the bone--not so much.
