I have my scan results
I posted last night but it didn't appear so here I go again. Dr called my spine results are
T-score 2.2 compared to 2.4 3 years ago
Z-score 2.9 compared to 1.7 3 years ago
t-score 2.6 compared to 2.5 3 years ago
z-score 1.7 compared to 2.0 3 years ago
Maybe my back is alot worse because I had back surgery last year?
I am being sent to an endoencrinologist to find out possible causes. Osteroporosis doesn't run in my family. Mom has it but it is after cancer treatment. I rode horses for many years, not athletic but I walked, exercised and line danced. I was thin (no more thank you menopause grrrr)
I think I read osteroporosis can be connected to sjogren's which I have symptoms but no positive blood work. I took Actonal for 4 months but ended up in ER in incredible pain. Since then I was using Fortical up until 5 weeks ago and I developed some sores in my nose. I may go back on that. The dr said something about Forteo injections. I take calcium, D and magnesium
I guess this would be considered moderate osteroporsis?
Re: I have my scan results
Hi mel...are the scores you posted supposed to have a - sign in front of them? even with the - before the numbers they aren't that bad. the spine score is in the osteopenia range and the hip score osteo just below the -2.5 that is the beginning of the osteoporosis range. The z scores, IMO, aren't that relevant because they compare the density to a much younger people...not a very fair assessment unless you happen to know your scores from when your were in your late 20's or 30's when your density is at its peak.
Seeing an endo can be helpful to rule out secondary causes of osteo. They'll know what test to do and how to read the results. I don't know if back surgery plaed a role or not...your dr. can answer that for you. Being thin as a young person is a risk factor, even if menopause has added unwanted pounds. have a good weekend..take care..phyllis
