stopping drug treatment

What happens when you stop taking bisphosphonate treatment? Does your body start making bone on its own? I have been taking medication for over 6 years, and want to stop it. Does anyone have any idea if my natural process will reactivate? Let me know. Thanks, samsunset

Re: stopping drug treatment

I would ask your doctor for information on this but hopefully someone with experience can answer your question. I know that when I stopped taking the Forteo my bone density T scores nose dived quickly within 6 months of stopping the medication.

Re: stopping drug treatment

Good idea to ask your doc, unless he is trying to get you to continue the drugs. His viewpoint might be biased in that direction.

Hopefully, you will soon start making bone that is stronger and less brittle than that which forms through the use of biophosphates. Are you planning to supplement now with calcium, Vit. D, Strontium, etc.? I would think taking up a new protocol would definitely help.

Best!

Jen
