Question Question about cross country skiing...

Hello everyone, the new year must be keeping everyone busy. Here in central Illinois we've had an abundance of snow and cold weather. Out behind our house we have enough space to make tracks for cross country skiing, which we both enjoy. My question is, is cross country skiing considered weight bearing? You are carrying your weight, but your feet don't strike the ground with each stride. Have a good week. take care...phyllis

Re: Question about cross country skiing...

My hunch is since you're not prone or sitting, there is some "weight bearing" benefits. I understand what you're saying in that this is a smooth motion rather than the traditional running or walking stride. Either way, this is a great cardio exercise and you get the chance to be outdoors and enjoy the wintertime and snow.

Hi Todd...how ya been? I agree with you, its great exercise and one we don't get to enjoy very often, so when conditions are right we try to get as much in as we can. take care..phyllis

Re: Question about cross country skiing...

hi phylwil..just standing is weight bearing, so enjoy your skiing & dont worry about it....I shall be thinking of you skiing in that lovely cool snow covered country as I lay here prostrate sweltering in 43+ deg heat
I will exercise twice as hard when the weather cools, in the end it all evens out

Re: Question about cross country skiing...

Go for it Phyllis it will certainly do more good than harm. You are standing so getting some weight bearing and enjoy the outdoors no matter what.
