Re: Calcium Supplements

I take calcium citrate (it is supposed to absorb better than other kinds, and causes less stomach upset). It is combined with magnesium and vit d3. The brand name is Bluebonnet and it contains 1000 mg calcium citrate with 400 mg magnesium aspartate and 400 IU vit d3. I add an additional 1000 IU vit d3 separately.

Have to tell you that we can take all of the calcium in the world for our bones, but it is to no avail if your bone loss is due to excess calcium in the blood (and that mean ANYWHERE in the ten range). I also had an elevated PTH intact level with my hypercalcemia and it turned out to be a parathyroid tumor which I have successfully removed.

Re: Calcium Supplements

Hi Britt, i take twinlabs 1000 with 400 IU D3. This i formulated to be taken in one dose and is a combo of both calcium carbonate and citrate with D3. I know that is contrary to what we've been told, but i've been taking these for some time and my CA levels are fine. I also take an extra 1000 D3 and 500mg magnesium.

I think the main thing is to remember to take it each day along with CA from from food. Have a good weekend..take care..phyllis

Re: Calcium Supplements

Hi Britt-

As another poster said, Calcium Citrate is better absorbed by the body. Be sure to get enough magnesium as well ( 500mg/ day. Almonds are a good source).

Also your multivitamin should have 100% RDI of vitamin K for good bone health. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach are a good source of vit K, as well.

Re: Calcium Supplements

Thank you so much everyone! I think I'll change my calcium supplement to the calcium citrate. My supplement only has 50 mgs of magneisum per caplet also so I have been getting only 150 mgs. I guess I need more than that.

Thank you for the help.
