Exercises for thoracic region

I have osteopenia in the thoracics - am taking the calcium and vitamin D - would like to be sure to do good weight bearing exercises. Any ideas?

Re: Exercises for thoracic region

If you haven't already read "The Myth of Osteoporosis", you should. There are some general ideas in the book. They said you should do many different exercises so that the muscles pull on different parts of the bones to strengthen them. I would invest in some hand weights so you can add weight to whatever you do. One good back exercise is, using an exercise ball, lie on your stomach on top of the ball and do kind of an upside down sit-up, using your back muscles to raise and lower the top half of your body. It's easiest if you put your feet against a wall or something else stable so you don't slide or tip over. I'm sure some people on here will be able to give you more specific exercises, but probably anything you do will help!

Re: Exercises for thoracic region

Hi,

I find that region difficult to target. I don't know if you belong to a gym but what works best for me is the back machine, where you lean back against a slant board with resistance. I find this gets (strengthens) all of that thoracic area where I also have ongoing problems.

Re: Exercises for thoracic region

I've got herniated discs plus osteoporosis. I wonder what I could as far as exercise for the T spine? I can't do any of the exercises that are described in the book. It's just way too painful and I can't bend my lower or upper back in different directions.
