39 years old spine 75 years old - Osteoporosis Message Board

Hi, I found out a few months ago that I have
osteoporosis after breaking 7 bones in 2 years. My Dr. told me that I have a spine of a 75 year old and hips of a 60 year old. He did put me on fosomax I tried taking it for 2 months but the heart burn was unbearable so I stop taking that. I take calcuim pills and exercise a few days a week, oh he wanted me to take the nose spray but sorry just thinking of spraying something in my nose.... So any other ideas out there for me????

Supposedly light weight/resistance training is good for osteoporosis. Since I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 9 years ago, I immediately started lifting weights. It is supposed to help build bone mass. I also go to a Chiropractor regularly to make sure I keep my spine positioned properly.

Hi, along with the exercise you could try coral calcium, look on the web for it, from every thing that I have read, your body will except more into it than other forms of calicum.

Something you could try is ipriflavone-a substance derived from soy or alfalfa that has been proven to build bone. You can read about it on [url="http://www.ostivone.com."]www.ostivone.com.[/url] I could not take fosamax either so after a month I quit. Then came across this on the internet so am trying it. Also go to [url="http://www.*********.org"]www.*********.org[/url] for information about natural progesterone cream and its' use for osteoporosis. I am also using that so hopefully I am doing some good. There are numerous life style things to do also. Do your research on the internet and you can learn lots. Good luck.

I had bad problems with fosomax, too. Terrible stomach cramps, etc. I tried the nose spray and had no problems but wasn't convinced about the effectiveness. Finally I talked it over again with my doctor and she suggested Actonel which is similar to fosamax but its not supposed to have the same side effects. I'm starting it tomorrow and am very hopeful that I can tolerate it. You may want to talk to your doctor about this alternative. Good luck.
