Post Vit D absorb test +

My interesting doctor gave me the Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy absorb test. He didn't comment on the results, but I am none too happy with them.

The reference is between 10-68. I was listed as normal at 19. Underneath, they say "A Vitamin D level below 20 should be considered a deficient status." Which is what I consider I have, in spite of the interesting doctor's non-interest in the results of this. So far.

I know I haven't been getting enough sun. Now remedied. I tended to work thru my lunch hours and days on my computer or various indoor activities.
And I guess the Vit D levels in my vits are not as much as the calcium and magnsesium. So I am taking everything into account and upping my Vit D.

He also gave me a DHEA, unconjugated test. And this he remarked on. I was low, at 93 (ref. women 130-980 and for men the ref is 180-1250 ng/dL.)

He called me, on his day off, before I got the copy of the test results in the mail, to tell me about this and to advise I take 25 mgs of DHEA a day. Which I will.

I asked him what it means, and he said you probably have low energy. But that isn't true. I have more energy now than in years. Go figure!

He also took an IGF-1 test. Not sure about that, must find out more details. I am listed as normal at 79, but the reference is 71-290, so I think that must be low too.

Next, after my vacation! I am going to insist on the 24 hour urine test. Going to be v. busy when I return from vacation - with my health/exercise issues - and work!
O

Re: Vit D absorb test +

I would like to know, OppOnn, are you still taking DHEA? What sort of effects/side effects have you had? Have you noticed any difference in your moods? (It's supposed to promote feelings of well-being, I've read) Just wondered! (And if anyone else takes it/used to take it I'd like to hear from them too!)

Re: Vit D absorb test +

I am seeing your question belatedly, Kaitrin.
I felt no difference with DHEA.
Just had another blood test and my doctor says my DHEA
is much improved. But I note my doctor's references were
different to those my rheumie had. And my doctor's test says
DHEA Sulfate, whereas my rheumie's said DHEA Conjugated.
I am seeing my doctor on April 26 and am going to ask her about that.

DHEA, they say, helps restore hormonal balance and supposed to stop
bone loss. It can, in women offer some of the same benefits as those of
hormone replacement therapy, but without the risks. Mine was low.
But now seems high! Which is what I am going to check into.

It is good for both sexes, and Mr. O is taking it too, because his is also low.

I am taking only 25 mg but 50 per day for 6 months can rtestore woman's
plasma DHEA to youthful levels. But I would only do that under doctor's
care, and so few doctors know about it, although they should.

Some of the above info was taken from a newsletter flash
from Life Enhancement Magazine (www.life-enhancement.com)
