Nope, not everyone! It is common tho, I have the start of Kyphosis in the C6 and 7 vertebrae, dr said it may or may not progress so I'm not going to worry about it.
Is Kyphosos the same as Dowager's hump? My mother and her mother had very bad ones, but fortunately I have so far escaped it. I recently had a bone scan and which shows osteopenia in the hips and osteoporosis in the lumbar joints. I have lost 5/8 of an inch. This disturbs me since I am only 57 and feel I have doing " all the right things" for years now hoping to prevent this disease. Any advice?
How do you know if you are at risk for this condition? I try to stand/sit with straight back but worry that isn't enough. Is there a brace or exercise to help prevent Dowager Hump? I've started having back pain and need to mention to Dr on next visit but that will be awhile. Is there a site with reliable, informative information about Osterporosis and all the conditions that can arise from it?
They are the same, Kyphosis and Dowagers. You can not really prevent it per se. Some people end up with it really bad others not so noticable. From what my Dr stated it happens as the discs degenerate and lose heighth between them(reason for loss of height in some people)There are a few good sites dedicated to osteoporosis. Discuss this with your Dr for more information. Are you seeing a rheumatologist? They specialise in this thing.
