Question Im 24 years old with a prosthetic leg and Osteoporsis and liver failure!

I was in a car wreck 7 years ago and broke alot of bones, Lost a leg and got banged up pretty bad! My hips were killing me for about a week straight and it was bad pain i couldn't get any sleep or do much of anything? Iv had back pain since my wreck, Iv taken pain pills very strong pain pills since my wreck! I went to the doctor two days ago and told my doctor i had bad pain in my hips and back and pain pills were not fixing my problem! He asked if i had gained any weight lately? And yes i have gained about 40-50 pounds in about three years! So he does a Bone Density scan and E-Rays blood tests the whole 9 yards! It all came back that my liver had almost quit working and i have very bad Osteoporsis in my hips and my back so bad that on X-Ray you cant see my hips or lower back so he takes me off all of my meds which were pain meds & sleep meds! Ok i have been on Ms Contin 30mg twice a day, and hydrocodone 853's up to 6 times daily, Oxycodone 80mg twice a day all three at the same time and 800 mg of Neurontin for nerve pain 3 times a day, And just recently been added Zolpidem (Ambien) 10mg once at bedtime! I am in so much pain now that iv been taken off all of my medicine! My hips and back didnt hurt this bad when i was on the meds but its not good to be on all of that for years and then one day just quit all of everything? RIGHT? I am not allowed to walk or use crutches the doctor said my bones were to week to allow me to walk or hop or anything but set in a damn wheelchair! I am supposed to start (Reclasp)??? I think? Where i get a injection once a year! Does anyone know anything about any of this? Sorry for the Book ^^^^^ But would be much Obliged if you read and gave me your thoughts....Thanks Alot

Re: I'm 24 years old with a prosthetic leg and Osteoporosis and liver failure!

I feel bad that you are in pain and that your scan shows that your bones are that weak, I was just researching some and did come across reclast which is a bisphosphonate drug. Since your bones are very weak I think you need something to help strengthen them. Your pain in hips and elsewhere may be the result of your osteoporosis.. The cocktail of painkillers and sleep meds you mentioned are a prescription for trouble so I'm glad your doc took you off. Too many stars have mixed similar drugs with dire consequences, even fatal ones. BUT your doctor should have left you with something to manage your pain. I think you need to go to a pain clinic to have them address your pain from all the areas of concern, such as the pain caused from the accident, the breaking of bones and having the pain of osteoporosis to contend with. I wish you all the best and hope that you will get some relief soon.

Re: Im 24 years old with a prosthetic leg and Osteoporsis and liver failure!

It must be so difficult and challenging for all that you have gone through. As far as the liver failure, I do know that some pain meds taken in high doses over a long period can affect your liver in a serious way. I think the other poster was right in suggesting you get in to a pain management doctor. Also, your other doctor may have been wrong taking you off of all pain meds at once. This can put you through severe withdrawal, especially if you have been taking them for a long time.Just my opinion, so check with your doctor. Does your doctor know how long you have been on all of these?
As far as the Osteoporosis and "Reclast", I take this drug by infusion once a year, and it is one of the newer drugs to stop the progression of the disease, and to strengthen your bones. It can have side effects, so be sure you have the knowledge of this drug before you get it. I had severe muscle pain and joint pain for awhile after taking it, but many people don't have any problems at all. It appears your problems are severe enough that this is probably why it was recommended for you. I wish I had some answers for you, as I do know what 24 hour a day pain is, and I've had to have my husband and daughter monitor my pain meds. schedule. Keep us posted, please.

Re: I'm 24 years old with a prosthetic leg and Osteoporosis and liver failure!

Thanks alot for the time you put into answering me Dorri and Precious55! Means alot! I have been with a Pain Specialist for going on 4 years now. I have been to three different pain doctors, because it does not feel as if they were really helping me out, any other than giving me pain meds! But i have stuck with this last one because he has tried newer meds on me. Trying to figure out a better alternative to my pain relief, My PCP doctor that has been my doctor all my life said that i will no longer be allowed pain meds so i will not need to see the pain spec, Anymore? I went and had the Reclast done and didnt feel any different the first day but the next day when i woke up i couldnt move i was in so much pain every muscle in my body hurt to the most extreme, and my head hurt worse than it has ever hurt in my life!!! That continued for 4 days then i got back to where i actually felt the way i did before the injection. Just hope it works to heal my bones back up! Can only hope i guess? But i just wanted to thank you ladies and hope yall had a wonderful New Years and a Great Christmas! )))

Hope you don't mind me giving you a hug. I'd be kind of like a Grandma figure to you, with me being 60.
