testing calcium levels

can anyone help, (PRETTY QUICK) as I am due to start Forteo anyday now.
My hubby has been doing some research and he wreckons I should have a blood test for calcium levels before proceeding with Forteo. Can anyone advise?

Blood calcium levels are regulated by the body to stay in the normal range ( 9-10.5) The body needs it there to continue the electrical synapses. In order to keep it normal the body will take calcium from the bone if it is too low, or excrete it in the urine if too high.

Forteo is not giving you calcium. It tells your body to store calcium in the bones.

So in answer to your question- no you do not need to check your blood calcium.

I assume the doc ordered it because of osteoporosis and dexa scan results.
