I can't really believe at 52, I have osteoporosis of 3.1 in spine and osteopenia in hip! I am pretty scared to continue with yoga/pj ages, due to twisting and bending, Also playing hard with my grandchildren. I feel too young to have to make so many lifestyle changes. I am very active and DO NOT want to take any of the harsh RX Meds on market now...Anyone else with me?
I felt the same way. I tried all the osteo drugs but couldn't tolerate the side effects of any of them. I suggest you read the book, "The Myth of Osteoporosis" by Gillian Sanson. It explains a great deal about how the drug companies are pushing the diagnosis of osteo, and scaring many people. I now just make sure I take enough calcium, vitamin D, etc. Many have had some success using over-the-counter Strontium. I tried that as well but it gave me bad headaches. I also do plenty of exercise without fear.
I'm sure you'll get lots of advice from others here too.

Please don't stop doing Yoga and any other activity that you enjoy. I was told that I
had to take meds. After a few months of my gut telling me the doctor is wrong,
I read the book mention to you and started taking strontium, vit D at least 2,000 IU
a day, calcium. But what brought my scores up was weight bearing exercise.
I have been doing weight bearing exercise for almost 3 years now and feel much better.
When my scores improved, my doctor said that I still should still take meds,
at that point I knew that I had made the right decision to just be my own advocate
and trust my gut feelings.
I think I will give yoga another try. I have been doing the weight machines and walking 2 miles per day. I feel that there just isn't enough time in a day between working full-time and trying to fit in enough exercise daily to benefit my bones. But I am doing it. I am also trying eat more, as I am exercising so much and am considered underweight. I am ordering the osteoporosis book today...can't wait to read it. Thanks for your post...
