Question Surgery for two level cervical fusion

Hi,
Im set to have surgery for two level cervical fusion (having discs replace at this level also) with titanium metal and screws for support. I have osteopenia, my concern is the hardware and screws not taking and the doctor having to go in a do again. My question is can they do the surgery without the metal support and screws? In my thinking they are only there for support until the fusion heals.....Ive also heard that sometimes the hardware they put in your neck will sometimes irratate the tissue around it and cause more pain, along with some people sensitive to the metals (titanium) and the screws coming out and creating more surgery and problems......Can I do this surgery without the hardware? As I understand it the cage is ONLY there so you do not have to stay in the collar as long and for more protection..........Id rather do this surgery without the cage and hardware but want to be safe too........Thanks and hugs to all
