appointment with counsellor - Pain Management Message Board

My insurance company has set up an appointment with some kind of a counsellor for me. I can't remember what her title is but she is going to help me decide what type of job I can do, if and when the doctors allow me to go back to work. I've been off since July 03. I'm just wondering if anyone else on here has gone through this as I don't know what to expect. Our first meeting will be here in my house.

Is this Workmens Comp insurance? or disability insurance?

I think you are talking about a Vocational counsolor... but if she works for your workmans comp insurance company there might be another motive for them here... They are really sneaky sometimes. Mostly, they just don't want to have to pay your WC claim, but they will do a lot of things that are really close to being unethical just to be able to prove that you "certainly are able to work", so they don't have to pay any more on your WC claim.

IF this is a WC case, and IF you have your own lawyer (you should), you really need to discuss this with your lawyer... and I would suggest that you have someone there with you when this counsolor comes to the house.

I am not trying to freak you out at all, but the WC people are known for causing people a lot of problems, and I don't want to see you be their next vicitm.

If this isn't a WC case at all, then disregard everything that I just said

I went to see a Voc. counsolor once when I was applying for state disability benefits (before I got my social security benefits). The assessment was that I wasn't suited to do any type of job at that time... there were so many questions that they asked me. Some of them seemed really dumb, but even the dumb questions are really important... stuff like "do you tie your own shoes?" I guess being able to tie your shoes shows that you are able to bend over and reach your feet, and able to use your fingers, and able to think properly enough to know how to tie a shoe... I still don't quite understand how being able to tie a shoe means being able to work

but they do look at all of your answers to all of the questions.

Thanks Wittesea. No, its not WC its disability. I am nervous about it because I don't have a clue what I can expect. She wanted me to try to think of a job I could do. My hands don't function properly (not to mention the rest of my problems!!) so that doesn't leave me much option for work. Well, I guess I'll let you know after Monday morning how I make out!! Are you in Canada or the U.S?
