What could cause this??? - Pain Management Message Board

I have developed a lump on my left side trapezious muscle near my neck. It seems to be getting larger and is very painfull. There is a line of pain radiating from my herniated disc in my c3 and c4 - up to this knot in my trapezious. I am also experiencing muscle weakness, swelling, muscle twitches and my shoulders are not alligned straight. Is this something to freak out on? I do have some smaller muscle knots along my spine but they are not as big. I am worried about this big knot in particular so I am calling my doc in the morning. Just looking to see if anyone here has developed muscle knots from herniated discs - or if this is a torn muscle or something worse...

Well the doctor said it was muscle damage and that the lumps were caused by the torn tissue. He said it will take some time to heal. No work for 2 months. I lost my job this week. He has put me in physical therapy and wants to see me back in one month. He says that the MRI indicated some problems with my spine but nothing to require immediate surgery it would be the last option. He wants me to continue the medications as prescribed and try to refrain from physical activities. That seems contradictory of physical therapy but I guess I will give it a shot. I wonder what average recovery time is on torn muscles in the back and neck?

Are these "torn" muscles caused by an injury or are you referring to the damage that is caused when the tissuue was cut into during surgery?marcia
