I've seen changes in my PM groups prescribing practice. VA was the first state to impliment the OxyContin tracking system that creates a database of every doc that prescribes and every patient that takes OxyContin.This is paid for by Purdue. They had stopped prescribing OxyC when I started with them in 2001, since then they have discontinued calling in any meds including class 111 and 1v meds, they have recently passed a rule not to prescribe more than 60 unit doses per month of BT meds, IF you need more BT they will increase your base dose.

If you want to flip this story around, the only drug safe to talke and avoid prosecution is the most potent opiate made measured in micrograms, 1/milionth of a gram, these meds would be the Fentanyls. Your safe as long as you stay under 28,000,000.00 micrograms of fentanyl per what? month, year? decade? It's crazy.

I'm considering using Dilaudid as a BT again just to use something different from what's in my pump. 100 8 mg pills would cost 110 bucks but 200 4mg pills would cost 40 bucks. I really doubt my practice will prescribe 200 4mg dilaudid a month. My needs are higher and I have no insurance so I take what's afordable. I'm actually wondering when someone is going to ask what I did with the 450 meth tabs I required because they don't make a generic larger than 10mgs.

The same math holds true with oxycodone. 5mg generic roxicodone is rather cheap but IF I were to use the same 30mg roxicodone that worked well on BT pain I would pay roughly 8 times the price having to take 6-8 5mg tabs at a time instead of 1 30mg pill.

It's truley disgusting, these prosecutions take nothing into acount other than the DA has never had the need for high dose meds and lkely thinks morphine should still only be used in hospice. The pain closer to god crap, ....I would send my doc closer to god if he told me that.

It's truly horifying but not the first story of it's kind. The first time they shut down dr Hurowitz, 18 of his patients comitted suicide and no conviction was made. How do these people sleep at night knowng the suffering they cause and knowing an addict is going to find his drugs one way or another, so shutting down a doc is not going to decrease the number of addicts on the street or in rehab.

When they prosected doc Hurowitz the second time the used the same tactics, arested patients, threw them in a cold cell to go through withdrawal, told themn they had tape of them selling there meds which they didn't. The cops can lie to obtan any info they want,Fortunately nobody agreed to purger themselves to obtain a conviction of this leader in the PM field.But he has given up the fight and retired so a thousand or more patinets in the DC area and across the country are now without a doc. They haven't reported the number of suicides of his patients from the most recent prosecution.

Well it may jack up rehab attendence when CPers are cut of cold turkey and treated like an addict and there only choice is rehab, hoping they won't suffer as much in a rehab setting as at home. Funny how a Heroin addict is allowed to to stay on meth maint for a decade simpl,y because they don't want to DC opiates. Through a few of them in jail and the EEOC would be in the courthouse the next day filing charges of discrimination against people with the addiction disease. How exactly to you catch this disease dirty toilet seats? LOL

Reading and talking about this is fine but we have to get involved in any form of protest, congressional hearings , changes in law and let people know that were not all hanging out in a boarded up house with the stains of opium on our fingers. Mandatory minimums have to go. Why does 28 grams of opiate legally prescribed get you more time than 28 grams of cocaine. There are 28 grams in an ounce and 30 in a troy ounce. But the drug comunity uses 28 grams AS THE OUNCE MARK on the street.

I HAVE ALREADY PREDICTED THE PHARMACUETICAL COMPANIES WILL BK THE MEDICARE SYSTEM ONCE THE PRESCRIPTION DRUG PROGRAM IS IN PLACE IN 2006. THE FIRST DRUGS TO BE BANNED OR LIMITED WILL BE OPIATES. WE ARE ALL IN JEOPARDY. THE DOC THAT LIED TO COVER HIS OWN ARS SHOULD BURN IN h@##.

This is a perfect example of why you want a doc that is not a soft touch, one that keeps maticulous records and does not allow early refills for any reason. If I get shorted a couple pills by a pharmacist, I'll deal with it rather than raise a stink that could lead to investigation.

We need to protect our own docs too. I will share the name of my doc with some people but I would never pass his name out like hot dogs for anyone to go see just for these reasons. One bad patient can bring down an entire practice and effect 1000's of people.

I've seen the whole 30 day thing debated on other forums, some insurance will fill at 75 % so why not, seems to be the theme and the answer people are looking for that ask this question. The concept of 60 or 90 pills lasting the entire 30 days isn't rocket science and people asking how soon can I get this script filled don't realize the catastrophy this little bit of non compliance can create.

If your doc allows early refills and makes med changes over the phone, Prescribes rediculous amounts of BT meds is not a good doc on my book, he's merely a soft touch that will eventually loose their licence. Particularly docs that offer no other method of PM. IF they simply use the script pad for everyone they have to know there days are numbered. But should we have to endure useless procedures to apease our local DA and show him we are constantly trying other methods.

I actually thought having this pump implanted would somehow ensure me some degree of PM the rest of my life. Aperently not so, especially in this day and age. How sad.
