Does anyone get better?

I am on 240 mgs of Oxycontin a day. I have DDD in neck and lower back. I have been in severe pain for three years. Doctors say it is in too many levels to operate.

Is there anybody who had it this bad who got better? I have tried everything! I would need three surgeries, and I don't have the money or the support system to do that.

Yesterday I met a woman who said she had spinal stenosis, and got better by giving up tomatoes. I don't think so...

Re: Does anyone get better?

I also have DDD and I had a fusion in January of this year. I also have other levels that are going but my doc wants to wait until disc replacement is out of experimental stages. I have an HMO and they won't cover anything but good old fashioned fusions. I am on 50mcg of Fentanyl and 60mg/day of oxycodone. My pain is out of control right now but I am in the process of finding a new PM.

I don't think giving up tomatoes is going to do us any good. LOL. I wish it were that simple. It's hard to come to terms with taking meds for the rest of our lives.

God Bless,
Sherry

Re: Does anyone get better?

Hey guys, If you have mechanical pain, pain caused by mechanical or autonomical defects or injury, I doubt giving up tomatoes will help. But if you have neuropathic pain caused by the mecahanical pain there are reasons why Tomatoes can cause increased pain. Conditions like fibro, RSD , chronic fatigue, migraines , IBS actually might respond to changes in Diet. I have heard the tomato thing for the last 12 years, some people actually do get relief from changing diet. Red whine can be another triger for things like Migraines, Tomatoes can also trigger headaches, several foods that contain certain enzymes and chemicals actually can cause increased pain. So I wouldn't right it off for everyone.

Will DCing tomatoes change a narrow nerve pathway, like stenosis, remove bone spurs, fix a failed fusion, ,or repair a ruptured or bulging disc, absolutely not, but it may reduce the referred nerve pain from the mechanical problem. It may be worth a shot to eliminate tomatoes from your diet just to see what happens, It's much less invasive than any ther PM modality and has no negative consequences to stop tomatoe products. It wouldn't hurt to try?
Take care, Dave

Re: Does anyone get better?

Wow Dave I had no idea. It does make sense though. I know foods affect so many other conditions, I just didn't make the correlation. My son is allergic to wheat and rye and you do not want to be around him if he eats anything containing either one of those. You are right it doesn't hurt to try eliminating some foods. Thanks again for your wonderful knowledge.

God Bless,
Sherry
