Trigger Shots Bad side Effects Need Replys - Pain Management Message Board

Ok I had trigger shots yesterday on my lower right back. reason he is doing it is for my disease which is Interstitial Cystitis. He feels that because of my 3 hernia disk in my back that this may help my pain in my bladder. I don't by it one bit.

This is my second set of shots, the first on was from another PM doctor. 3 hours after the first one I was having hot flashes and sweating and my whole body was having pain even my bladder was feeling worst. This time I had it done yesterday and 20 minutes after having it done I had pain running all down my right leg all the way into my foot. He comes and says this is normal some times it will be fine. Well this morning I am hurting so bad. Same thing pain in my whole body and chills and sweating and now pain in my left side of lower back. I am sick and have a fever. I haven't taken my temp but it feels like it and everyone tell me I feel look real bad. I emailed my doctor to tell him this is the only way I can get my doctors attention so........

I need advice her..... Any one who had this injections ever had this kind of problem before. I am really freaking out.... Like my pain is not bad enough and now to have this....

It sounds as though you indeed had a reaction to something something within the shots themselves (fever/chills signs). You should call the doctor immediately and stress how urgent the situation is. If you don't hear back in a reasonable amount of time and it continues you probably should go to the ER or you can call a hospital and ask for their advice, guessing they will also say the same, go to the ER or call the doctor immediately.

I can say the pain shooting down the leg is normal, I had it with an epidural, it is cause by the pressure the medication/injection puts on the spinal cord. Mine did go away after about 20 mins and I had intermittent ones thereafter. I too was in worse pain after my injection for weeks, in fact I'm still not better. But the chills/sweating aren't a good sign so you should really talk to someone. If the doctor tells you it's normal then again, I'd seek out a hospital.

I have trigger point injections all the time in my neck just because I've already been thru all the other injections (epidurals, RFA, etc) which didn't help. The dr. is just trying to give me a few hours of relief in my neck.

Well, last month, I asked if he could try a TPI in my back. I have the herniations also. He said "Sure", and he did it, and I've been in absolutely the worse pain of my entire back pain life since then! It doesn't make any sense to me why a trigger pt injection would cause more and lasting pain in my back. I go see him next Friday and I will certainly ask him why it made things worse. All the ones I have in my neck don't bother me at all except for a short while after the injections. Then I'm fine. I'm curious what is up with this.

If anyone has any ideas, I too, would like to know. But with you having additional symptoms, I agree that yours may be a severe allergic reaction. You need to let your dr know immediately or go to an ER. like Kissa suggested. Take care, Linda
