Dr. Abandonment

Hello fellow colegues again. Does anybody know about doctor
abandonment laws ? I live in SC. This afternoon I went to my PM doc
to get a prescription filled after getting a confirmation from his office
yesterday. I asked him in the past to give me a note stating I could not drive
long distances. He refused. I got one anyway from my primary. When I
showed him this note he got ****** and said I should find another doctor.
I told him fine, as soon as you give me my script. This turned into a *******
contest as I finished it by calling him a jerk. Needless to say that we both
behaved like morons, Can he legally do this ? My understanding is a doctor
must give notice if both are under reasonably good terms before terminating a patient. Is this a form of medical mal-practice ? Any and all help
would be most welcome.

Thanks
Bob

P.S. Thanks Linda01 for the info.

Re: Dr. Abandonment

Unfortunately yes, a doctor can refuse to treat you if he so wishes and doesn't always have to give a reason, however screaming at each other is reason enough.
